Scandinavian Midsummer Party Menu
This Scandinavian midsummer menu is a mix of typical Finnish summer time party food and Danish smörrebröd. We have cooked more or less similar fresh and light meatless midsummer menu several years now and enjoyed it every time!
Celebrating summer
Midsummer is a big deal in Scandinavia and Nordics. We love to celebrate the sun and light after long dark winter and it’s pretty much the official start of the warmest part of summer. Many people start their summer holidays and people are feeling festive all over.

Valentin visited Denmark three years back and fell in love with the Danish Smörrebröd concept. The open sandwiches are familiar in Finland too, but making them a part of festive food was a new idea for us. After that trip the smörrebröd platter has been a part of our Midsummer celebrations.
We always try to cook with the fresh seasonal ingredient. During midsummer in Finland we have plenty of rhubarb, tasty little potatoes from the new crop and all other fresh green things! That makes this Midsummer menu simple and fresh in taste and also quite light – it’s cool and not too heavy to eat even in hot weather. You might actually see how bright sunshine was when we took the pictures – and hot too!

Love,
Valentin
